association of nod receptors with peptic ulcer and gastric cancer

چکیده
host innate immunity can affect the clinical outcomes of helicobacter pylori infection, including gastritis, gastric ulcer, gastric adenocarcinoma, and malt lymphoma. nucleotide binding oligomerization domain (nod)-1 and -2 are two molecules of innate immunity which are involved in the host defense against h. pylori . this study aimed to evaluate the effect of the expression level of nod1 and nod2 on the susceptibility to gastric cancer as well as peptic ulcer in individuals with h. pylori infection. the gene expression levels of these molecules were compared in three groups of non-ulcer dyspepsia (nud) as a control group (n=52); peptic ulcer disease (pud), (n=53); and gastric cancer (gc), (n=39). relative expression levels of nod1 in patients with gc were higher than those of nud and pud ( p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). similarly in case of nod1, pud group showed higher level of expression than nud group ( p < 0.01). however, there was no significant difference between h. pylori -positive and -negative patients in nud, pud, or gc groups. moreover, the expression levels of nod2 showed no significant difference among nud, pud, or gc groups, while among h. pylori -positive patients, it was higher in gc group than nud and pud groups ( p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, respectively). in addition, positive correlation coefficients were attained between nod1 and nod2 expressions in patients with nud (r 2 linear=0.349, p < 0.001), pud (r 2 linear=0.695, p < 0.001), and gc (r 2 linear=0.385, p < 0.001). collectively, the results suggest that the chronic activation of nod1 and nod2 receptors might play a role in the development of gastric cancer.

متن کاملRegulatory T Cells and Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells in Patients with Peptic Ulcer and Gastric Cancer
Background: Regulatory T Cells (Tregs) and Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs) are two main regulatory cells modulating the immune responses in inflammation and cancer. Objective: To investigate and compare Tregs and MDSCs in peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. Methods: Patients with dyspepsia were selected and divided into three groups of non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD, n=22), peptic ulcer disease...
متن کاملGalectin-9 Expression Profile in Patients with Gastric Cancer and Peptic Ulcer Disease
Background: Chronic inflammation and dys-regulation of the immune system mechanisms are now well established as primary triggers of gastric cancer and peptic ulcer disease. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) is a member of the galectin family and known as an inducer of cell aggregation, adhesion and apoptosis. Gal-9 interaction with its main ligand T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain protein-3 (Tim-3) leads...

The first volume of the Endocrine Function of the Human Testis overviews the feedback system between the testis and the central nervous system. The testis secretes androgens which act at the hypothalamus and pituitary to modulate secretion of hypothalamic releasing factors and pituitary gonadotrophins. LH and FSH influence testicular androgen secretion and sperm formation. This volume is the pr...
متن کاملRelation between gastric cancer and previous peptic ulcer disease.
BACKGROUND It is presently not well understood to what extent peptic ulcer and gastric cancer represent related diseases. AIMS The objective of this study was to assess past occurrence of gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients with cancer of the gastric cardia or other parts of the stomach. METHODS The association between peptic ulcer and gastric cancer was studied among patients followed ...

INTRODUCTION Recent epidemiological evidence supports a strong relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric cancer [1-11]. The relative risk for cancer with an infection of five years and over is in the region of three to six (Table 1). The identification of almost universal coexistence of H. pylori related antral gastritis in patients with duodenal ulcer disease [12, 13] and ...
